Wendy Jones
Wendy started dancing at the age of 4. Since childhood, she has always dreamed of pursuing a career in the dance field. In high school she studied dance at Butler University’s Jordan College Academy of Dance (JCAD) where she earned several scholarships and auditioned for the Jordan Dance Ensemble (JDE a pre-college program). The ensemble allowed her to perform in many venues and as a guest soloist with Dance Kaleidoscope. She also participated in a number of community outreach programs. Most of the outreach dealt with underprivileged children and dance. Through this teaching and outreach experience, she also discovered her passion for dance pedagogy. Wendy then decided to further her education at Arizona State University with a Dance Education concentration.
Wendy had an excellent experience in the Dance Education program at ASU. She became the lead instructor for ASU Moving Inventors Summer Intensive Workshop during the summers of 2004-2005. Wendy taught creative dance, technique, cultural dances, and integrated curriculum for all grades K-12. Dr. Mila Parrish selected her to be an Artsbridge Scholar in Spring of 2005. Wendy was given a grant to create an integrated curriculum on second grade students. Her curriculum focused on language arts and creative dance. She titled the curriculum “Poetry in Motion.” She graduated with her BFA in Dance Education in May of 2005.
After college, Wendy began working as an academic counselor for The University of Phoenix, also teaching and choreographing all genres of dance for Mesa Art Center. She was then invited to teach Ballet technique and Hip-Hop classes for Mesa Community College. These teaching experiences continued to motivate her in the field of adult dance and fitness education. During this time frame, Vanessa Lupercio introduced Wendy to Zumba and it changed her life. It is the perfect combination of dance, fitness and fun! She began teaching Zumba immediately after her certification and it quickly became Wendy's favorite class to teach. She now teaches six Zumba classes a week, and absolutely loves teaching at Luna Fitness! “The women at Luna Fitness are so joyful and inspiring….It is such a pleasure to spend my weekends with these fabulous women!”
