Are we getting estrogen in our cosmetics ?
Submitted by Dr. O Brien on Tue, 07/01/2008 - 19:32.
All those pretty looking and yummy smelling shampoos, face creams, body lotions and shower gels may be giving us more than we bargained for. Many of the plastic bottles that our body care products are packaged in contain Bis- phenol A. This chemical is an estrogen mimetic- that is- it mimics estrogen in our body- but not in a good way. it means our livers have to work extra hard to clear it out of the body and it means that we have extra estrogen stimulation in our breast and uterine tissue- which may be a trigger for cancer in those tissues. Remember the good old days when things were packaged in glass? maybe when plastic, which is a byproduct of petroleum, increases in price as much as oil has , we may consider our health ,our environment and a more sustainable way of packaging our body care products Dr Kareen O'Brien
