What is Your Motivation?

What keeps you going? What keeps you on track? I want to be healthy and moving as I get older so I can travel the world and not be limited by my mobility. I also want to provide a great example for my son to follow as he gets older and is one day out on his own. I want to encourage a healthy lifestyle for him now so that when he is on his own he knows what to do to be active and can prepare his own healthy meals and not have to rely on fast food when he is away from home. I keep it moving and shaking because I want to be active and healthy as I age and to prepare my son.

Final Weigh-In Time!

The past 12 weeks seem to have flown by! The transformation challenge is nearly over. It ends Saturday 4/13/13. Make sure you stop by the gym to do your final weigh-in. I can't wait to find out the winners!

Try Something New!!

I love trying something new! How will you know that you don’t like it if you never try it? It may turn out that you actually love it! I am not the greatest dancer or the first to jump on the dance floor so I was nervous to try a Zumba class, but it looked like so much fun I knew I had to. I was not the best or perfect at it but I had fun and enjoyed it. I never would have known had I not tried it. I encourage you to not be afraid or shy to try something because you don’t know what you’re possibly missing out on.

Raw Granola Bars

As I was browsing the Internet looking for a new homemade granola bar recipe, I came across a no bake (a.k.a. raw) granola bar recipe. The recipe contains both dates and coconut oil, two of my favorite things to use while baking (or not baking in this instance), so I decided to try it out. This recipe isn't low fat, low sugar, or low in calories. It is made of nutritionally rich ingredients with the majority of the sugars coming from the dried fruit. As a side note, I did alter the original recipe. I substituted dried banana for chopped dried apples and the cashews for pecans.

The Truth About Diet

Confused by all of the conflicting information from nutrition research studies? Here is the final word.
1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat sausages and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

Natural Hormone Replacement Foods

Many women choose natural estrogen replacement treatments as opposed to prescribed hormone replacement therapies provided by their physicians. In addition to natural creams, there are a number of foods that contain phytoestrogens needed for natural hormone replacement, and can be found at your local grocery or health food store.

Saying Yes!!

When is the last time you said yes to something for you? So often we give excuses and reasons why we cannot take the time to do something very much needed for ourselves. We are too busy, we have errands to run, we have to get home clean, cook, etc., and we put off the things we want to do for ourselves because we feel guilty. I have even found myself apologizing for spending time away from home doing something for myself. This month let’s focus on putting ourselves first and not last. In order for us to be the best we can be for others we need to be the best we can be for ourselves.

Group Fitness Feedback

Hi ladies,

In order to continue providing high quality group fitness classes, we need your input! Throughout the month of April, we are asking that all gym members fill out group fitness feedback forms for every class you attend. (If you attend the same class every week, e.g. Tuesday 9am Spin, you only need to fill out one form for that specific class.) The forms are located in the group fitness classroom and near the front desk. Completed forms can be placed in the drop box up front. Let a staff member know if you have any questions!
