Travelling healthy - Naturally!
Summer vacation time is almost over, however many of you are getting in that last minute trip or cruise. Make sure you are at your healthiest before you go on that trip to maximize your vacation! Here are some handy tips and suggestions that may increase your immune system and energy levels to have more fun fun FUN!
Hydrate! There is nothing like adding water to help you "go with the flow". Proper hydration allows our cells to function correctly and allows us to excrete toxins better. When we travel, there is increased stress of being away from our homes and our usual diet which makes it difficult to adapt. With water, we can fit more comfortably in our environment - especially if we are doing a lot of sight seeing on vacation.
Carry hand sanitizer in case you cannot get to soap and water. Handwashing is still considered the number one most effective method to prevent illness and the spread of disease. Of course, hand sanitizers are not designed to completely replace hand washing, it just is helpful when a sink isn't available.
Get your rest. Sleep is important to keep you immune system and your energy up. If you energy reserves fall low, the stress of travel can make your immune system weaker. Schedule plenty of relax time while on vacation to allow you to rejuvinate!
Select Vitamin C rich foods. Fruits and vegetables are great when travelling to different parts of the world. The closer to natural you are selecting your foods, the more vitamins and minerals you can absorb to keep you health up. Fruits, such as apples, are easy to carry in your purse and provide a great source of fiber as well as vitamins to your diet.
Get a physical 1-2 months before your vacation. By knowing what health risks are involved in your travel plans, you can practice preventative medicine. Also, by learning more about your body and how it reacts to stress, then you can supplement before you go to build up immune and energy reserves.
Essential oils such as lavendar, patouli, tea tree and peppermint are invaluable when it comes to preventing bug bites. Most bugs do not like the smell of these essential oils and will stay away. Also, these oils are great for wound care and skin healing when in a pinch.
See Dr. Rodriguez for more details on how to use these oils and to clarify any health concerns you may have before travelling. Schecule your consult at the front desk at Luna Fitness or call 480.899.3355. Most of all have a great vacation!
