Summer Sun and Skin Care
Of course we are exposed to more sun here in Arizona during the summer. Who can't resist getting in the pool and having backyard barbeques!. Here are some tips to keep your skin looking healthy and avoid long term damage from the skin.
Do: Use sunblock/sunscreen. Natural sunscreens contain micronized titanium dioxide and zinc oxide and can provide up to 30spf coverage. Some of the chemically based sunscreens now are reporting 75spf against some UV light rays which are the damaging light rays.
Do: Take your anti-oxident multivitamins before exposure. These include Vitamin C, selenium, etc. If you have anti-oxidents in your system, you have less likelihood of burning.
Do: Restrict sugar or alcohol containing beverages. These decrease your anti-oxidents and increase opportunity to burn.
Don't: Exfoliate heavily before you go out in the sun. The old skin layer will be protective to the new skin underneath. Also avoid chemical peels in the summer so you don't expose new fresh skin to damaging UV rays.
Don't: Use polyethylene glycol, or poylpropylene glycol on your skin. These are used as preservatives in skin care products and are derived from petrochemical sources. Many still contain solvents and these items have been reported as being pro-cancer.
If you have any questions on these items or would like to know what products may be the best for your skin, please schedule your consult at the front desk at Luna Fitness or call 480.899.3355.
