Summer is over and school is back in session - Staying healthy during school is important
So how do you keep yourself healthy when the kids go back to school? How do you stay healthy when you go back to school? Going back to school can bring back all kinds of viral and bacterial infections. Of course most of us know that hand washing is the single most effective way to prevent disease. Sometimes we don't have access to soap and water, so hand sanitizers are the next best option. In most stores, you can pick up a small travel packet of sanitizing wipes to use as well.
Teachers usually do exceptionally well over the summer months in caring for their health. They remember to come in to my office for their visits, follow dietary guidance, make the gym 3-5 times a week and drink water! However when school starts, the first thing to go is the water drinking, then after that the gym isn't visited enough, then the quick fast energy candy bar comes in - so forget all the good nutritional advice I dispensed over the summer! I find that really interesting because for years I was an educational sign language interpreter in the Mesa Public School system. I had to be with my assigned clients during recess, lunch, breaks, etc to provide access to communication as much as possible for my clients. After school there were after school activities to assist in and often I gave sign language classes to other students to facilitate communication. I learned how to really prepare my week.
Water was usually reserved for that last school bell - then a liter of water was drank immediately. About 2 hours later - I drank another liter. That took care of the water. Also at about 2 hours after work, I got ready for my workout routine. I had a personal trainer that I set "dates" with that held me accountable to a schedule of working out. If we are not detoxing our body daily by adding exercise, we are allowing stagnant energy and byproducts of metabolism to sit in our bodies. Infectious materials, like harmful bacteria or precancerous cells, just love an acid environment and will be happy to set up house within that stagnation. Fast foods and candy bars definitely clog up the works and deplete our bodies of essential vitamins.
So, remember to wash your hands, drink your water, get regular exercise and schedule your consult to find out what vitamins are good for your particular case to keep your immune system strong and infections away!
