"Spring" Into Spring
In my last blog I wrote about rededicating oneself to an exercise program. And since then, I have biked and ran pretty consistently. The results: a few lbs. lost :-). So as I basked in the glory of my small victory, Easter Sunday came along. Note to all: NEVER, EVER weigh yourself the day after Easter. HA! It took about a week to get all that sodium out of my system and get back on track. No more ham for me, ma'am.
As a trainer and as someone who is trying to lose some weight, I've been thinking about ways to help us stay consistent and reach those goals. It occurred to me that perhaps we should, ugh, get ready, write them down. I have heard this information so many times over the years and always concluded that the goal in my head was good enough! Well, so far that hasn't worked for yours truly.
So I have written down my goals and put them up in a place that I use every day: my closet. I also put up a picture of me at my ideal weight, right next to my goals. Now when I feel like I'm too tired to exercise, my goal and that darned picture show up in my head, springing me into action.
If you have trouble setting goals, we can help you at Luna. Our personal trainers can help you figure out a realistic, measurable time frame for losing weight, gaining optimal health, and reducing pain.
Speaking of reducing pain, I was able to experience the "Sack of Buns" experience that Skye blogged about. Whoa baby! As I exercise lately, I have been plagued with hip and glute pain, primarily on the right side. You see, a few months ago I got a little too "cocky" in front of my kids and their friends on my roller blades. I'm pretty sure I cracked my tail bone. That's what I get for showing off!
So I resigned myself to the certainty that I would have to live with the pain and ice the area when it flared up. That is, until the other day when Skye lured me over to the stretching table. She proceeded to make my 43-year-old, beat-up body do stretches I never thought possible. Julie, the other trainer who was watching, kept joking she thought my leg would snap right off. Don't get me wrong, it didn't hurt. It was amazing! Even more interesting is that before Skye stretched me, she had me stand in front of her so she could check my alignment. One shoulder was higher than the other and my knees and hips were unbalanced. She further assessed that one leg was longer than the other. No wonder I've felt like Humpty Dumpty!
When she was finished, my hips were back in place and my legs were the same length. Words cannot describe how it felt to walk afterward. I felt taller and my whole body felt better. No more hip or glute pain either! Even exercise feels better. I ran 4 miles yesterday and flew along with ease. As a former "stretchofobe," I am now a believer and can't wait until my next session. Check out the "Sack of Buns!"
Well that's all for now. I have babbled enough. I hope you can "Spring" into Spring, as I have. Know we are here to help you. Happy Spring!
