We all have hopefully set our goals for 2010 by now and started working towards them. My goal for this year is to gain more flexibility. Due to my extremely active lifestyle as a personal trainer and spin instructor, I have A LOT of tension built up within my body. Regular stretching just isn't enough for me. I also need the stress reduction and mental clarity that comes with practicing yoga.

Now most of you may wonder why some one who has been a trainer for almost 20 years needs help in this department. Well, we all have our own strengths and weakness. And remember, even our professional athletes have trainers! Also, for those of you that know me, sitting still and being quiet for an hour only happens while I sleep, and sometimes not even then.

So why did I wait so long? Well I could come up with hundreds of excuses, but that doesn't really matter. The main reason that motivated my follow through now is PAIN! I need relief! My muscles are so tight that my posture is being compromised, and again regular stretching isn't going to do the job for me, not even the foam roller. What I have discovered is that having a private session with one of my Yoga instructors is my best plan of attack combined with weekly massages. Yes, I am so tight that I need weekly massages too!

My journey officially started last week when I did a private session with Aminda. OMG In 45 minutes we only did 5, I repeat 5 poses and downward dog wasn't one of them! Yep, I was so tight I had to hold them for what seemed like an eternity just to allow my muscles time to relax. And 45 minutes was all I could handle. Earlier today I did an hour with Jezy to help relieve some hip, glute, and low back pain that kept me from sleeping last night. Although I felt like she was killing me slowly and my muscles were shaking like crazy, I feel so much better as I sit here typing this blog. My staff even noticed a difference, stating that I was "Glowing" tonight. And when I told them I had taken the Yoga earlier, she stated "Holy cow, you did a yoga session!" Though I still have a long ways to go, I am excited for my journey.

The good news is you can start your journey too. Next Tuesday we are doing a seminar at 6 p.m. on the fundamentals of yoga and how to start your practice no matter what your fitness level is. For details, call 480-456-5767. In the meantime, I will keep you all updated on my progress.
