HCG or human chorionic gonadatropin has recently become a "hot topic" and the "latest" in weight loss. Really the use of HCG has been around since 1930's and has been used safely on thousands of people. What is HCG anyway? It is a chemical that is produced by the placenta when a woman is pregnant. It is also what movie stars and others have used to lose weight quickly, effectively and safely. It is reported to increase metabolism to a rate that is sufficient to grow a baby which has been reported at 1500 to 2500 kcal a day. With this increase in metabolism, combined with a very strict diet program, many people have lost weight successfully without ill effects. Actually, in my experience in working with HCG since 2005, I have seen many positive benefits in my clients.

Preparation for HCG:
1) It is advisable, and in my practice, necessary to have screening blood work performed. This can be accomplished at your insurance-paid doctors office for just the co-pay or prescribed by me or drawn at my office. All other physical reasons for weight retention should be ruled out such as thyroid or cardiovascular problems. If on medication or supplementation, these should be brought into the office for a full review for safety and to prevent interactions between the medications prescribed and the supplements recommended by the health food store clerk.
2) You should join a gym like Luna Fitness or become a member of yoga studio. Personal trainers can assist you in designing an exercise program that will match your fitness level. Forming a good and regular exercise routine will help you to tighten and tone after losing the weight and most importantly keep the weight off.
3) Prepare for the program by scheduling a consultation to determine which type of preparatory detoxification program is the best for you. There are several options ranging from Detox Shakes to homeopathics to dietary changes to fit your lifestyle and philosophical needs.
4) Communicate with your family and friends to form a support system. Help them to understand that you are going to be making changes to improve your health. At first some people in your life will resist and may make fun of you for trying to change your health habits. Give them time and after your success you can help them achieve their health goals too!
5) Come in for regular visits to maintain weight loss and to continue to improve your health. For most people, the more accountability you have the easier it is to stick with the program and to be successful in meeting your health goals.
