Fertility and your diet
I recently came across an article about the Mediterranean diet and it's affect on fertility. The study came out of the Netherlands in March of 2010, and found a pattern amongst women indulging on the Mediterranean diet...they had higher incidence of conception when compared to those not following the diet.
The Mediterranean diet isn't really a diet, but more an eating lifestyle. It has already been shown to lower the incidence of asthma and allergies in children, lower the risk of metabolic syndrome, possibly eliminate diabetes medication for Type II diabetics, and may lessen the risk of cancer and depression. More recent findings, out of Spain and published in the April online issue of BMC Genomics, show that specific components in olive oil, a major player in the Mediterranean diet, may suppress genes that promote inflammation. The diet also suggests eating more fish, snacking on nuts, and including a glass of heart-healthy red wine with your dinner.
Many of the foods included in the Mediterranean diet have shown anti-inflammatory properties and include heart healthy fats, such as mono- and poly-unsaturated fat. Because of their higher fat content, you will likely feel satisfied after meals and will be less likely to overindulge.
