Do As I Say, Not as I Do: Rededicating yourself to exercise

Greetings, All:
One might think personal trainers and fitness instructors don't struggle with exercise and diet. Wrong! A few months ago, my family and I relocated from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, otherwise known as "The Tundra." In the harried, stressful act of putting the house up for sale, showing the house and being the only parent to four children, (hubby has been here since October), I couldn't stay motivated to exercise.

And so I resigned myself into thinking when I reached Phoenix, I would start up again. A runner at heart, I set out for the first time once we got moved into our rental home. The flabby, flapping flesh that swung in the wind as I literally "pounded sand," was alarming. It's amazing how we need to "use it" or we "lose it." But as miserable as I felt at first, when I was finished, it was exhilarating! I ran pretty regularly after that, until a few weeks ago when we moved into our permanent home and my hours became early ones at Luna Fitness. Somehow, I got out of my groove and exercise took a back seat. You see, I am used to exercising first thing in the morning. If I don't exercise in the morning, typically it doesn't get done. And now, working the early shift until 10 a.m., I would tell myself, "I will run after work." Then as soon as I walked out Luna's doors, my body would shrivel up in the fetal position on the couch after eating three chicken soft tacos from Del Taco drive through.

Well, with all the beautiful weather we've been having, I unpacked my summer shorts. To my utter horror and shame, none of them fit, except one. Well, you could say they fit, but it would have been pretty uncomfortable wearing them around for too long. Who shrunk my shorts? HA!

And so I rededicated myself to exercise. I think I've found a way to make it work for me. It used to be that I would run long distances 3-4 times a week and lift 1-2 times per week when I was in weight loss mode. I think I've been finding that it's a tall order to go for a long run. So I have decided that I'm going to do something every day, early mornings or not. I will either run, bike, walk or lift for 30 minutes every day, from now on. Thirty minutes goes by quickly, yet one can derive great results.

At Luna, we all know what you're going through because we have our own struggles. We can help you in any number of ways: Personal training is huge (of course I'm biased because I am a trainer.) Are you aware that we have "Express Training" at 30 minute sessions? Our group exercise classes are second to none! And Dr. Jeanine and Dr. Yo rock. We are a tool for you to utilize and we enjoy it! Let's get creative as swimsuit season greets us. Let us know how we can help you rededicate yourself to exercise, nutrition and a mindset that works for you!
