Are you really doing "all you can" for your Health?
"You are nothing without your health" We hear that phrase all the time. Health and wellness is a very personal topic. Everyone has belief systems revolving around their own personal health. These beleif systems are internalized and can manifest as reality. Avoiding self talk that produces images of a state of illness is a damaging practice. When you wake in the morning and get ready for the day - is Old Hagatha staring at you in the mirror? or are you satisfied with yourself? If not, what are you willing to do about it? A standard questions I ask my clients who beleive they have a condition that cannot be changed or helped is - How badly do you want to feel good?
So many doctors tell their clients "I am sorry. I don't know what to tell you. You will have to just learn to live with it." That is, in my opinion, ridiculous.
There is always something that we can do to improve upon our health. Investing in a health program is priceless - actually continuing the investment to reap the rewards is priceless. Utilizing the sources we have available to us is not only smart - its a huge step towards our health goals. As a natural physician, it is at times frustrating to me to see a client come in at the beginning stage of a chronic illness - diabetes, fibromyalgia, lupus, rheumatiod arthrits - and not want to try natural options to actually correct the condition, halt the progression of the disease, and possibly reverse some of the damages. Sometimes patients are more concerned with the high tech drama or high tech treatment for their condition when it can actually be addressed with health habits such as knowing exactly what your food allergens are, exercising, and building a support network around you. Sometimes it requires knowing when to change relationships that may be harmful - even if the relationships are with your closest family members - it they are forcing an unhealthy lifestyle on you. Its not that you have to leave those persons and not continue to love them, but not accept the forced alcohol, poisonous foods, tobacco/drug use, sedentary lifestye, etc that may come from a toxic environment.
Oftentimes mom's will be "doing the best I can" following the "professional advice" for their child when the "professionals" are recommending things like long term antibiotic use or birth control pills for acne, Prilosec and antacids for a newborn (!), anti-depressants and anti-psychotics for puberty not to mention menopause and other pharmaceuticals that will decrease symptoms but not actually correct the situation. I find it difficult to beleive the predominant medical community has the wisdom and answers that our own internal bodies posses to correct illness. And what strikes me as the most odd is why doesn't the standard medical community actually apply the science we do have? What I do is called functional medicine. I look at the functioning of the body and determine if the body is functioning the way it is designed to do. Sometimes we need to add something to allow the body to correctly function and it doesn't have to cost a bunch of money to do it either. It can be as simple as dietary or lifestyle changes.
