"Push yourself past your comfort zone!"

My theme of the month at Luna is "Push yourself past your comfort zone!" I can't tell you the number of times I have watched women at the gym just gab away while they are doing "cardio". That's NOT Cardio...it's called lolly gagging to me! Come on ladies....you need to push yourselves. If you can have a full conversation while you are exercising, then you are not doing it at the right intensity. You have to get your heart rate up and actually break a sweat for at least 20 to 30 minutes to consider yourself as doing cardio. The following are my recommendations....

It Takes a Team!!!

I have found in my 20 plus years of being an athlete, a coach, a personal trainer, etc that it takes a good team to gain the best results. Whether your goal is to lose weight, get stronger, rehab an injury, train for a sport, or reduce stress, professional help will get you your results faster. We all have our strengths in life and if we combine them with other people's strengths it makes for a better and faster outcome. No matter what your goals are, having a team behind you to give you the support you need, when you need it is the best plan of attack!

Gain With Out Pain!

Over the past few weeks I have had the opportunity to stretch several women, ranging in ages from as young as 14 to as old as 59, all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels. It has been a great learning experience to work on these women. Every time I work on a new client I learn more about the human body and how tension and stress affect us way more than most of us realize! However, the one thing that has shocked me the most is the number of women who have shown up for a Fascia Stretch Therapy appointment and were scared or nervous that it would hurt and be painful.

"Sack of Buns"... An update to my New Years Resolution...

This weekend I have been attending a Stretch Therapy Certification Workshop. I have been enlightened to a whole new way of Flexibility Training. Who knew I had a spiderman suit underneath it all!?!? Fascia is an amazing part of our bodies that most people don't even realize it exists. And until you experience a Fascia Stretch Therapy session, you have know idea how it's all connected! Wow what a difference from the traditional "Old School" stretch experience.

Flexibility Training...The Latest...

I am sure you all have been wondering how my New Year's Resolution has been going, so here is my update...

Bye Bye Hip and Arm Pain!

This past Thursday I did yet another private yoga session to hold true to my New Year's Resolution of gaining more flexibility and to reduce my high stress levels. This time in 45 minutes we only did 3 poses and it all ended with Jezy walking on my back for 15 minutes. She calls it "Barefoot Shiatzu" (which she is certified to perform); I call it just another one of her torture treatments. No pain no gain right?

Holy Moly Yoga!!!

We all have hopefully set our goals for 2010 by now and started working towards them. My goal for this year is to gain more flexibility. Due to my extremely active lifestyle as a personal trainer and spin instructor, I have A LOT of tension built up within my body. Regular stretching just isn't enough for me. I also need the stress reduction and mental clarity that comes with practicing yoga.

Diabetes Prevention: Sugar, Carbs, & Protein...

Some diabetics make sure they are watching their sugar intake and lowering their carbohydrate intake to help regulate their blood sugar. The problem is they end up eating too much protein and not enough good carbs to give them energy. Protein is a good thing in moderation, but for the diabetic, too much can be toxic for the kidneys. Not all carbs are bad either. What you need to learn is the glycemic index and how to glycemic load your foods. Good carbs are high fiber carbs such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Is Weight Loss Permanent?

I get asked all the time "What weight loss program is permanent?" My answer is "The one you stay consistent with." Consistency is the Key! Most women are under the allusion that they can do a "get skinny quick" regiment of exercising, dieting, detoxing, body wraps, and or liposuction, and it will be a permanent result. But if you end up going back to your "Old Ways" you'll end up fat again! If you don't change your mind set and your life style, you won't create permanent or long lasting results. Not even gastric by pass surgery is permanent.
