Restaurant tips for Vacation / Travel

Plenty of women have trouble sticking to their diets when they are on vacation or traveling for business because they eat at restaurants a lot. Ordering food in a restaurant can be tricky, especially in another country! However, if you have the option to go to the grocery store on vacation for some meals and snacks, DO IT! If eating out is the only option due to being on a Cruise or a Business Dinner, here are a few rules to follow to help keep the extra calories away.

Bad Moon Rising...

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes behind the Earth so that the Earth blocks the Sun's rays from striking the Moon. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle. Hence, there is always a Full Moon the night of a lunar eclipse. This Wednesday the 15th of June will be 1 of 2 Lunar Eclipses that will occur this year, the other occurring on December the 10th.

With A Grateful Heart...

Have you every had “One of THOSE Days?” Yesterday started off pretty rough for me. I had traveled back to Alabama for my 20 year high school reunion last weekend, and it was an exhausting trip. It was so nice to see all my friends again and to know that my family was safe from the tornado devastation! However, because of the storms my normal 4-5 hour trip turned into 17 plus hours and sleeping on the airport floor. I felt like I was in an 80 year old woman's body!!! I was feeling down, tired from a LONG week, and everything seemed so negative.

"Gung Hey Fat Choy!" 恭 喜 發 財

Today, of course, is the first day of the Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year. The Chinese Solilunar Calendar is one of the longest ongoing used calendars in the world (for more than 4700 years!) You might wonder “How is the Lunar New Year determined?” Well, it always falls on the day of the second New Moon after the Winter Solstice.....and boy did we just have an interesting Winter Solstice....A Full Moon Lunar Eclipse (that hasn't happened since 1638)!

Lunar Eclipse on the Winter Solstice - It's Always Darkest Before the Dawn.

By now, maybe you have heard about a very unique event that is/will be at it's peak shortly after midnight tonight/morning Dec. 20 / 21 here in Arizona. An event that has only happened once in the last 2000 years, the last time being 1638. That is the full lunar eclipse, the moon's darkest hour, occurring at the Sun's darkest/shortest time of the year - the winter solstice. There are rumors around the internet from it being a "bad omen", a time of craziness to the tin-foil hatters proclaiming apocalypse is upon us. Give me a break.

Tips To Avoid Holiday Weight Gain

Ladies....It's that time of year again! And who wants to hear the "every body gains weight during the holidays" statistics? Not me, and I am guessing you don't want to hear it either. So let's talk about how we can avoid gaining the weight in the first place, but still be able to indulge a little and have some fun during the holidays.

Tired of being in Pain... Not Sleeping Well???

I am not a doctor, but here is what I have done for some of my Fascia Stretch Therapy clients. To keep their identity safe, I will just call them a client. Here are a few examples of what I can do on my stretch table.

"Push yourself past your comfort zone!"

My theme of the month at Luna is "Push yourself past your comfort zone!" I can't tell you the number of times I have watched women at the gym just gab away while they are doing "cardio". That's NOT Cardio...it's called lolly gagging to me! Come on ladies....you need to push yourselves. If you can have a full conversation while you are exercising, then you are not doing it at the right intensity. You have to get your heart rate up and actually break a sweat for at least 20 to 30 minutes to consider yourself as doing cardio. The following are my recommendations....

It Takes a Team!!!

I have found in my 20 plus years of being an athlete, a coach, a personal trainer, etc that it takes a good team to gain the best results. Whether your goal is to lose weight, get stronger, rehab an injury, train for a sport, or reduce stress, professional help will get you your results faster. We all have our strengths in life and if we combine them with other people's strengths it makes for a better and faster outcome. No matter what your goals are, having a team behind you to give you the support you need, when you need it is the best plan of attack!
